I attended part one in Marketo's webinar series on engaging email marketing Monday morning. There were a ton of great insights shared, and I thought it would be helpful to compile a summary of the highlights as shared on Twitter via #DG2EEM.

Join part two of the Definitive Guide to Engaging Email Marketing Webinar Series on 9/4 at 10am PT. In the meantime, download the guide here.

  • @dayroth: 94% of Americans 12 years or older who are active online say they use email regularly.
  • @cook_bj: Email marketing is NOT dead!
  • @thekiehm: I wish this statement was at the forefront of every marketer's mind: "The best marketing doesn't feel like marketing at all."
  • @jonmiller: Nice review of Marketo's Definitive Guide to Engaging Email Marketing by @xanthonysfx http://t.co/qqQN7BkM3A
  • @jonmiller: A must read: 37 Tips for Writing Emails that Get Opened, Read and Clicked by @HennekeD http://t.co/7rOd5Ch9pM
  • @dandpproducts: To succeed with modern email marketing, you need to know what makes email truly trusted and engaging.
  • @SocMedWorks: Engaging email is trusted email.
  • @KayHeineman: Daily, you are exposed to 2,904 media messages, pay attention to 52 and positively remember only 4
  • @MindiZone: The best marketing does not feel like marketing at all.
  • @heidiwillie: Increase email engagement by getting better at list segmentation.
  • @heidiwillie: Use variations of the same email message to target different segments.
  • @heidiwillie: Demographic targeting is good, but behavioral targeting is key to relevance.
  • @CrowdedHead: SMART segmentation is the key to relevance. Behavioral targeting + online body language + HUMAN interaction.
  • @heidiwillie: Email marketers need to remember that the recipients of their email are HUMAN.
  • @danhow01: No reply is a pet hate of mine. If you want my attention then why make it difficult for me to talk to you?
  • @garyelfert: Good point, @Marketo - Send timely, targeted, valuable HUMAN email (i.e., no DO NOT REPLY addresses).
  • @MindiZone: Do you A/B test your subject lines? You should. http://t.co/oYvSL0nHBu
  • @heidiwillie: 30-50 characters is ideal for email subject lines. Long ones get cut off on mobile.
